The Autowatch Ghost immobiliser is a different approach to vehicle security. Once fitted the vehicle remains immobilised until a unique sequence input is pressed on buttons already in the car. This is an undetectable device ideal for car keyless entry and other CANBus vehicles. Although not Thatcham Approved this system may be Insurance Approved through the new TASSA regulation depending on your Insurance company.

A Ghost Immobiliser is a security system for cars and vans. This device uses the original vehicle buttons located on the steering wheel to create a unique push button sequence. The sequence must be used each time the owner starts the car, to disable the fitted immobiliser.
The Ghost Immobiliser is a virtually untraceable car security device and ideal for keyless entry systems that have proved vulnerable by thieves adding a new key or replacing the ECU. There are no visible components in the cabin area as this device does not require a hole for a receptor or have a status indicator to flash signal information.
This system will only work with CANBus driven vehicles, and Autowatch UK have a specific list of car makes and model that it guarantees the Ghost will be compatible with. As Autowatch Ghost installers for Hampshire, West Sussex, E. Dorset and S. Surrey we can advise you if your vehicle is on this list.
As of 2020 all Autowatch Ghost Installers must be TASSA Approved. Autowatch are working closely with TASSA to regulate the supply and installation of this product. Unfortunately, there is no Thatcham Category available for the Ghost and it is unlikely that one will be created, however these measures are being made to help Insurance companies to ask for the Ghost even though it is not 'Thatcham Approved'.
The Ghost car immobiliser is very secure and there are no indicators that it is fitted. There are no 'tell-tale' relay clicks and it benefits from a small brain. We ensure the device is integrated into the wiring loom of the vehicle making it difficult to locate and disable (should a thief know it is there in the first place). Further security is provided by the system not using radio frequencies and therefore not subject to the possibility of sophisticated code grabbing techniques. There is also no possibility of diagnostic detection should a thief gain entry to the vehicle, essentially the Ghost makes the car look like it 'won't start'.
Customers can change their pin input sequence at any time, effectively locking out past drivers or sequences given for vehicle servicing. This can be done by putting in the current code and then creating a new sequence. There is also an override code, which should be kept with the car documentation, to recover a sequence should customers forget. However, it is vital that this is kept secret to avoid compromising the immobiliser security system.
For some vehicles with limited button selections available, owners can choose to have an ADR tag to be carried by the driver. These tags come at an additional cost and can be used without putting in a sequence. Here the customer turns on the ignition and waits for two signals (this can be light flashes or buzzer beeps depending on the car). This tells the driver that the Ghost has seen the tag and the car can be started normally. The tags are also ideal for customers who wish to share the tag without giving away the code sequence. In most cases using the ADR takes the same time as putting in the sequence but may be useful for certain cars or customer needs.
This is a superb product but unfortunately it is not Thatcham Approved. However, if your Insurance company is aware of the TASSA regulation then they may accept the Ghost as a suitable security device. It is worth talking to your Insurance company first.
If you have been specifically asked to have an S5 Vehicle Tracking System installed, Cat 1 Alarm, or Cat 2 Immobiliser then customers are forced to choose Thatcham products.
This device typically takes about two hours to install, however the time taken depends on the car and in rare cases the vehicle may be required for longer.
