Basic Tracker for Insurance

This is a basic tracker for Insurance. It does not have a tag and with some modern forms of theft the vehicle owner will need to inform the monitoring station that the vehicle has been stolen.

We recommend this system if the Insurance company has just asked for a 'Tracker' – often because they don't understand the differences between the Thatcham Approved systems. But also this may be appropriate if the vehicle has some aftermarket form of immobilisation like a Ghost Immobiliser or a Category 2 Electronic Immobiliser.

Immobilisers fitted at manufacture are in most cases very weak, and although they tick the box for a Cat 2 they are usually got around in seconds. The important word here is 'Aftermarket'.

Free Downloadable App

All Thatcham Trackers come with a free downloadable App. This offers a form of self tracking on top of the monitored tracking. The Ecotrak app is easy to download and use, giving location and history as well as other basic functions.

For some customers, who do not require the tracker for Insurance, it is all about this App. Here the S7 is like a self tracker with the added function of a monitoring subscription should the vehicle be stolen. To be able to use the App the customer must continue to pay subscription.

Not Upgradable

Please note Trackers are not upgradable. Should your Insurance company at a later date change their mind, and require the higher classification of the Category S5 Tracker then a new system must be installed. The S7 and S5 are different devices and one cannot be changed into the other.

Value for Money

When it comes to value-for-money we always recommend the S5. This is only £100 extra on installation and £30 extra per year subscription. However, this means you are protected against modern forms of theft like key cloning, but also if your Insurance asks for the S5 you are covered.

Your vehicle tracker will be fitted at our secure workshop in Fareham. We are not mobile, however, customers can wait for their tracker to be fitted or wander around local warehouse shops. Fitting takes 2-3 hours depending on vehicle.
