There are two different classifications for Thatcham Category 1 Alarm. This page relates to the first one and is a 'Category 1: Alarm and Immobiliser'. It is partly made up of the second "Upgrade Alarm" category but has an added separate, 'Category 2: Electronic Immobiliser'. This means it is an Autowatch 695 upgrade alarm plus a Vodafone Cobra immobiliser.
By adding a separate immobiliser the system does not rely on the weak immobiliser fitted at the time the car was manufactured. Meaning that should a thief use modern methods of relay attack or key cloning to disable the factory immobiliser, they will not be able to disable the new immobiliser. This principle also applies to an originally fitted alarm which would be equally poor at providing security.
Real car security is only achieved when fitted at the customer's request, because original security is information that is publicly available, all systems are identical and fitted in the same location.
We provide Insurance alarms for motorhomes. All of our systems for motorhomes and campers are Thatcham and therefore Insurance approved.
If you do not comply fully with the Insurance company’s requests then you may find that your policy is voided in the event of a claim.
For this reason, it is important to comply with your car Insurance requests and we ask for the exact wording given by your Insurance company. From experience we have found that often Insurers do not understand vehicle security and are confused by the different systems available.
If an Insurance company asks for an 'alarm upgrade' then a Category 2-1: Alarm Upgrade will suffice and just an Autowatch 695 is all that is needed.
If they ask for a 'Category 2: Electronic immobiliser' then we can offer 2 different systems, the first one is the cheaper Cat 2 on this page or there is the Pandora Storm. See links below.
If they ask for a 'Category 1: Alarm and Immobiliser' then unfortunately you need an upgrade alarm and dedicated immobiliser (this page).
If they ask for an 'S5 Tracker' then this is a Category S5: Vehicle Tracking System and an ongoing monitoring subscription is necessary to continue to be compliant.
In most campers and motorhomes extra door sensors are required. The alarm system will protect doors through the CanBUS network if available but extra doors will need wireless sensors.
There are three types of motorhome and within these three groups there are still more variations that will affect the need for extra door sensors. However here is a rough guide:
Van Conversions: These will usually have doors protected through the CAN and may not require extra sensors.
Coach-Built Motorhomes: Here the front cabin doors are protected through the CAN but about 90% of the time the habitation door will need an extra sensor. It is also important to protect rear barn doors or utility doors if required.
A-Class Motorhomes: These typically have 1 front cabin door and this is usually protected through the CAN. It is also important to protect rear barn doors or utility doors if required.
Extra door sensors are fitted at a cost of £65 each.
Please note older motorhomes may have different requirements altogether.
