A Vehicle Immobiliser is a device that is installed into the ignition system of a car. It prevents the car from easily being stolen without the key. With this device a touch-key is carried and before attempting to start the car, the fob is touched to a receptor mounted in the car. The touch-key disables the immobiliser fitted, and allows the car to be started normally.

This is a Thatcham Category 2 Immobiliser fitted to Thatcham and Insurance standards. The Vodafone Cobra has been submitted to Thatcham for testing and compliance. This means that the Cobra has reached certain standards and may gain UK car Insurance discounts. We ensure this device is also fitted to Thatcham standards. There is a full list on Category 2 after-market systems on Thatcham.org.
A Cat 2 is a cheaper option than a full alarm system, and the best solution if all you require is a car immobiliser for insurance. We will provide you with an MESF multi-copy document where one is provided specifically for insurance companies. Customers however, should be aware that this device will not provide protection for the cabin space, and if the vehicle is broken into no siren will sound. It is also worth noting that if your insurance company asks for a Cat 1 immobiliser then they are asking for a full Category 1 alarm system, with integral immobilisation circuit included as standard.
This product has been rebranded as a Vodafone Cobra Touch-key Immobiliser. The Cobra brand has now been acquired by Vodafone but essentially still remains the same quality product.
Modern cars with keyless entry are susceptible to relay attack. This immobiliser uses a simple touch technology and provides no signals that can be scanned or interrupted.
Often this product is fitted on cars that already have a Category 2 system fitted at manufacture. The difference here is that this Cat 2 does not form part of the keyless system and provides an extra immobilisation circuit that needs to be physically taken out to override.
This product relies on the driver touching a touch-key to a receptor placed in the vehicle. The receptor is usually placed discretely on the dash or in an empty push switch slot, if available. The choice of placement is dictated by the interior of the car and what is physically the best option. This means that a hole needs to be drilled into the vehicle dash to house the receptor. Customers receive two tags, at the time of installation, and one of these can be carried on your split ring along with other keys.
We recommend customers have at least 2 working keys. If one tag becomes lost or broken then we recommend customers purchase a replacement from us. This is because it is necessary to have at least one active tag to disable the system before a new key can be programmed in.
Unfortunately without a working tag, a new system is required.
View information on how to programme in a new Touch-key from our more information link at the end of this page.
This device typically takes about two hours to install, however the time taken depends on the car and in rare cases the vehicle may be required for longer. Customers are welcome to wait in our dedicated area with free Wi-Fi and phone charging points.
